D.O.T. FMVSS No. 218 Certified and Labeled
What does D.O.T. FMVSS No. 218 mean?
D.O.T. FMVSS No. 218 refers to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that is established by the Department of Transportation. This standard establishes the performance requirements for helmets that are designed to be used by motorcyclists and other motor vehicle users. This includes impact protection, penetration resistance, and the effectiveness of the helmet’s retention system.
The GRIT has been tested and certified according to these standards and carries the D.O.T. label on the back of the helmet. Helmet laws vary by state, so check your local laws before you ride.

What makes carbon fiber different?
Carbon fiber is known for being strong for its weight. That lets this Special Edition GRIT come in at just 1.2 pounds, lighter than the standard GRIT at 1.4 pounds, so it feels like you’re barely wearing a helmet.
It’s still the same D.O.T. certified GRIT, with 12 air ventilation channels across the shell to keep you cooler on hot days and long rides.
